I'll Design The Interiors

Many clients that say they can resolve the Interior Design on their own, come to realise they really are in the deep end and are left feeling overwhelmed managing a job and family alongside a high level of engagement in the design/build process.

They may have a passion for curation, design and styling, or may have read a book on Feng Shui. Whatever the case, this information needs to be accurately costed, translated into the contract with the builder to create a seamless built outcome.  Perhaps they have a really clear idea of what they want. This is great, but many get tainted by the notion that an Interior Design scope can be executed in a matter of days, on a miraculous budget, by TV shows like The Block.

If you have considered reducing the scope of your designer or architect - to try and save some money. You may want to consider if you have the ability and time to ensure this process gets executed properly to ensure everything goes to plan. Considering the time spent and extra research involved, you may even be up for higher costs down the track.

In the custom build market, we cannot insist enough on resolving as much as possible before you commence a build. Do not wing it, or cut corners. By reducing the input of a designer you may load extra pressure on the builder to resolve design issues during the build. It is so important to ensure your builder has a clear and consistent set of documents to build from, a single source of truth. Your contract with the builder will reference these documents and you’ll be glad at the end of the project that you invested upfront and made the build as smooth as possible.

We also believe that the Interior of a home should reflect its inhabitants, it should tell a story of their life, but most importantly facilitate and celebrate a functional and healthy space to live. One of our favourite quotes by Ilse Crawford states; ‘we spend 87% of our time in buildings; how they are designed really affects how we feel, how we behave.’ … So why not leave it to the experts?

Interior Design is so much more than a visual thing, like picking groovy tiles and selecting cushions. We consider the psychology of the home, and how each space can be centred around function. Not only is spatial planning, creativity and visualisation a key component to design, but importantly, the thorough documentation process, level of detail and the industry connections with trades and suppliers allow the process to become a complete package - ready to be handed over to the builder, without any grey areas.

We as designers get so excited when we meet clients who have a passion for art, design or style and we love to collaborate throughout the process to facilitate a platform for your creativity to be explored and bring it into the built form.

To create a final outcome that is not only beautiful, high-quality, and healthy for you and your family, gives us as designers so much satisfaction. But, we also want to ensure the entire process from concept to completion is as seamless and stress-free as possible for all parties involved.

‘Design is a tool for humanity to enhance life’, Isle Crawford.
