Myths & Misconceptions Series

Welcome to our Myths & Misconceptions series - the intention of this 10 part series is to unpack some preconceived ideas when it comes to designing and building a custom designed home.

The building industry can be a complicated maze sometimes, with different parties involved; a lot of rules and regulations; time management; financial stress; an uncertain future; a lot of opinions and many, many more choices to make. On top of that soon-to-be-renovators have to navigate an extensive building market when implementing a more environmentally-conscious design. No wonder the process can be overwhelming at times, making it hard to choose what is right for you and your new house.

As a result of this complicated and often uncertain process, many ideas and theories have developed about the way a house should be designed and constructed. Some of these ideas are useful concepts and strategies to employ throughout the process of creating your new house.

Some ideas however, have the potential to dominate your thoughts and decisions for the worse. They can limit the creative process; disregarding your current and future needs, and oftentimes turn out to be more expensive than actually saving you money (and time).

It’s very important throughout the design and construction process to keep an open mind, continuously evaluate your (changing) needs, and be conscious of your decisions and their consequences based on (external) ideas and misconceptions. To help you, this blog series explores some of the most common misconceptions in the industry.

We hope that this blog series will help you to reflect upon your preconceived ideas, question unfounded beliefs and encourage an open mind to the creation of your custom designed and built home.

In our first myth buster, we will be discussing the preconceived idea that sustainability is expensive. Stay tuned folks…
