Bluebird Duplex

Bluebird Duplex reconsiders what townhouse living can offer in Barwon Heads: two complete family homes that feel generous, individual and closely connected to light and outdoor space. The challenge was to create a strong sense of home within a compact dual-occupancy footprint, without compromising on the room, privacy or liveability expected of a family house.

Each mirrored residence includes a single garage, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a dedicated study and an expansive open-plan living area connected to its own outdoor living zone. The mirrored arrangement makes efficient use of the site while allowing both homes to share the same considered relationship to light, garden and street.

From the street, the homes remain low and understated, sitting comfortably within the relaxed character of Barwon Heads. Entries are set back slightly from the street to create a more private side arrival, while the front study gives each residence a quieter, flexible space separated from the main living areas.

At the centre of each home, a courtyard draws daylight into the middle of the plan and becomes a focal point along the journey from entry to the living spaces at the rear. Beyond it, raked ceilings and clerestory windows lift the volume of the open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, creating interiors that feel notably spacious and light-filled.
